Work permit for refugees
Most refugee claimants can apply to IRCC for a work permit after submitting their refugee claim to Refugee Protection Canada. Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). Generally, only those who cannot meet basic needs without public assistance are eligible for work permits. In addition, they must provide the results of a medical examination to IRCC before obtaining a work permit.
To apply for a work permit an application form must be filled and sent to IRCC. Additional documents, such as copies of passports or travel documents must be attached to the application.
In addition, applicants must provide: Evidence that their Personal Information Form was submitted to the IRB as part of their application for refugee status or a copy of the completed Personal Information Form signed and stamped by the IRB.
Once a refugee is granted a work permit by IRCC they can apply for a Social Security Number (SIN) which allows refugees to legally pay taxes and use government services. Asylum seekers can apply for a work permit or SIN without paying a fee.
